Introduction

Hi! My name is Elia and welcome to my blog.

Where to begin…I was born in Cologne, Germany where my own Mother was born and raised. My father was born and raised in Israel where I was also lucky enough to have spent a short period of my childhood. However, I mostly grew up in Los Angeles and attended the University of California, San Diego. I fell in love with San Diego and decided to stay and work a year while figuring out graduate school plans (looking to study Art Therapy). During this time I applied to the JDC’s Jewish Service Corps and got accepted. I spent last year living in Cologne, Germany as the JDC Fellow, supporting and working for the Jewish community by developing programs for Jewish engangement and education. Currently, I live in Bat Yam, Israel as a Masa Israel Teaching Fellow where I am assisting the English learning of elementary aged children in a neighborhood school. I have also decided to take a course at Levinsky College in order to receive my teaching licensce to teach English as a Foreign Language. I hope to make Aliyah in the near future and know this education could benefit me greatly.

I have never had a desire to be a teacher but love learning. In the two months that I have been able to teach, I have however found a love for it. Working with children has been an amazing experience and I am excited for this course because I only want to improve my abilities in helping them. My biggest stress as a teacher is wanting to be able to provide my students with the best I can give them. I'm hoping during this class that I can gain the tools and knowledge to be a better teacher. As I have said I had no plans to be a teacher so I have never received formal education in this field but I am hoping and expecting to be able to use my knowledge about Psychology and Human Development.

  1. Hi Ella,

To get rid of the annoying white background, go into edit, highlight the text and then press Ctrl+space. That deletes all formatting and should do the trick. This usually happens when copying from WORD to your blog

  2. Hi Elia,
It was so much fun to read your first blog entry! As it happens, I spent a couple of really nice weeks in Cologne during the summer of 2014 and found it to be a very charming city and a terrific jumping-off point for exploring other cities in Germany. I really connected with your comment about wanting to offer your students the best possible learning experience. Sometimes I find that the school day goes by in such a whirlwind that it feels like nothing is ever finished. I have no doubt that you are doing a great job with your students, and I'm looking forward to this Levinsky journey!
